It is time to pump up the madness with my crazy predictions! This are the most extreme predictions that I can bet on for each squad.
MAHINDRA - They will be one of the three highest scoring teams Under coach Gavina in the Governors' Cup, Mahindra was the fourth slowest squad and scored the fourth lowest output per game. But with a very small line-up, I don't think coach Gavina will continue to rely in his defense. I expect him to play them as fast as possible and he will exhibit his prowess by molding their offense to reach the top 3. PHOENIX - Phoenix will be the least efficient team in the Philippine Cup Phoenix was the third most inefficient unit last Governors' Cup. They added better three-point shooters in the offseason and they already expressed their plan to play very small. I don't think they have put up the correct pieces together to make it an efficient squad. NLEX - NLEX will get into the semifinals Rain or Shine was an incredible squad under coach Yeng but if you compare the 2016 line-up of the Elasto Painters to the current roster of NLEX, the Road Warriors has the upper hand! NLEX never reached the semis in their short history but I am willing to count on coach Yeng to bring them there. GLOBALPORT - They will trade for a starting quality big Now that Yousef Taha has decided to return home, the thin frontcourt of the Batang Pier has gotten worse. Globalport is known to trade picks to get players that can help them with right away. I expect them to do that soon. Actually, don't be shock if one of Terrence and Stanley will be shipped to get a highly skilled big. TNT - Jayson Castro will be the BPC Castro has been battling Fajardo for the BPC award in the last few years. In the Governors' Cup, Castro went crazy-good with 23.1 points, 7.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds, the voters finally recognized him over the Kraken. If he can replicate that, it will be a pretty entertaining race for the BPC. GINEBRA - Greg Slaughter will be traded I am not expecting this to happen but I am willing to bet for it, with the right spread! Why? The acquisition of de Guzman has given them another giant who could turn out to be better than what we expected. Japeth Aguilar is looking better and he was dominant too in the last 2016 AFC cup. Lastly, Star Hotshots is the only SMC squad without a giant!
So, what if Japeth Aguilar break loose this conference with an 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks production? And de Guzman plays well with 12 points 7 rebounds and a block in 18 minutes of play? And they again reach the Finals without the Gregzilla? If all those things happen, the right business decision for SMC is to push Greg to the team that badly needs a giant.
