I believe, you already know that Mahindra Enforcers are having a hard time to maintain the team and that forced them to do a lot of trades where they grabbed a tribe of wings and guards.
So, I was challenged to think of a way that a franchise like Mahindra can still survive and thrive in the PBA.
I don't think Mahindra will continue to find ways to cover their financial leaks if they don't expect a solution in the near future.
So, let us say that the Enforcers will be able to handle the team without the need of any other team by 2018 and by 2020, they can already spend like an independent franchise.
So, what are the steps to keep them stable and thriving in the league?
#1 Keep Coach Gavina - I think he is the right coach for this kind of team. He has exhibited that he can juiced out efforts from underdogs and he can turn them into contenders.
#2 Groom a good player (Alex Mallari) and then trade him If done properly, Alex can put up a statline of 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 43% FG this season. Maybe, he can do even better. That will make the other teams crave for him and ask for a 1st round pick for the 2017 draft and some 2nd round picks.
#3 Invest on your import scouting The reinforced-conferences should be the target of this franchise and for them to thrive, they will need to find a cheap import who can impact the team, positively.
#4 As much as possible, draft bigmen The Philippines has a lot of quality guards that unless you already established your frontline, you should keep on picking PFs and Cs. If you found diamond-in-the-roughs with those picks in the 2nd round or much higher, it will be much easier to sell them. We all saw that with Guinto.
#5 Draft a sureball cornerstone in the 2017 And then give him the maximum three-years deal! At the end of his contract, you can already pay him so this is the right way to go.
#6 Find the right package for LA Revilla If you can get 2018, 2019 or 2020 picks for him, much better. You need to remember that the rookie deals are the best contracts in the league. So, distributing your picks in a lot of years is a good replenishment-system for a team like Mahindra.
#7 Repeat the process By 2018, you just need to re-check those steps and decide the steps that you need to do to be stable and to thrive in the league with your situation.
