Before the blockbuster James Yap - Paul Lee swap, Rain or Shine made another big swap, JR Quinahan for Jay Washington. Let us see how that affects the two teams.
GLOBALPORT BATANG PIER
Received: JR Quinahan
Sent: Jay Washington
Jay Washington was a big disappointment in his return to Batang Pier. In 25.5 minutes, he only contributed 8.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 28% 3FG. I know that the presence of Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle forced Jay to adjust his style but that was not the plan.
JR will be a great replacement for Jay Wash who played very bad on defense with Globalport, 106.8 Defensive Rating. JR will be a huge boost to their defense as shown by his 98.5 Defensive Rating this season. JR is a reliable rim protector and his ability to shoot from the outside, 46 three-pointers made, and great screens and picks will be a huge addition to their offense.
We can also add that JR is 3 years younger than Jay.
RAIN OR SHINE ELASTO PAINTERS
Received: Jay Washington
Sent: JR Quinahan
To properly grade this, we also need to consider that Rain or Shine went for the trade because they don't want to give the 2-years contract that JR demanded.
This season is the best ever for JR. He posted 11.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 47% FG per game. He will be replaced by Jay Wash who played one of his worst season ever in the PBA. Actually, Jay was bad in the last two seasons after posting 15.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 43.5% FG in 2014.
I really see this as a downgrade from JR Quinahan but if Jay Wash finds his old-scoring self and be motivated to play good defense, this will be a better trade for Rain or Shine.
